{design} mod santa
i discovered this fantastic santa in a crate of vintage holiday cards at a local antique store.
this particular saint nick instantly captured my heart for four reasons:
i am a sucker for stripes.
always.
there is no mention on the card of company, designer, or year.
i'm guessing somewhere in the sixties?
swoon!
the card is flocked with red velvet
which transports me instantly back to my childhood.
our early seventies home had two rooms
which were covered in flocked foil wallpaper.
i was smitten with the velvety stuff.
check out this fabulous lettering
from the inside of the card...
this is what a one dollar treasure from an artist date does for me.
ho ho ho!

{party} vintage innkeeper memories
six-year-old me with my birthday cake...
six-year-old me after my little sister used a toddler ninja move on my birthday cake...
isn't my mother's hair fantastic?
she wrote the following on the back of the first photo...
"merlin" looked like this...
this commercial was the reason i wanted the toy (six electronic games in one?! wow!)...
just a glimpse of little me from over thirty years ago.

creepy cute: diner dogs
ever since i was young, i have had a fascination with kitsch that is cute but slightly creepy.
i always stared in amazement at the strange stuff found at garage sales, antique shops, thrift shops, tourist traps, and my grandmother's house.
when i discovered the diner dogs at maker faire on sunday, i fell madly in love...
these odd canines have a history...
i was smitten and snapped away...
perhaps i love these because they remind me of my daria jean beauty queen...
visit the doggie diner site to read more about these peculiar pooches.

{gallery} the depression in color
my best friend benjamin discovered a collection of photos this week that i find mesmerizing, poignant, and beautiful...

it is a series of images in the united states between 1939 -> 1943 from the library of congress exhibit "bound for glory: america in color" shared via the denver post photo blog...

these pictures were taken by photographers of the farm security administration/office of war information and are some of the only color photographs which capture the impact of the great depression on small town life during that time...

it was extremely difficult for me to choose just three to illustrate the spirit of the entire gallery. i hope these three will inspire you to look at the rest...there are so many breathtaking photos in the collection.
wishing you a lovely weekend, my friends!
