the innkeeper's pup

my darling dog, daria jean beauty queen, was photographed last weekend by my talented urban tribe member lance of astigmatism productions...

{soul gazing}

{sun dog}

{licky loo + naked neck}

i have looked at these photos at least three hundred and seventy two times, and each time i do my heart fills with enormous love for my dear pup.

in my opinion, great photography captures essence. beautiful photos make me feel like the soul of the subject has been recorded. i sense that the photographer was compassionate, observant, and patient to notice and artfully document the real feel of a being.

thank you, lance, for your beautiful photography.

i am excited to share that lance and i have a creative project brewing, although it's tippy top secret for now...but stay tuned for an artistic collaboration betwixt two old friends.

Love these photos!! I wouldn't have thought of doing a "portrait session" with a pet, but I kind of love the idea!

Daria is gorgeous :) My favorite is the nekkid picture! I love how cute dogs look when they're sans collar. What kind of dog is she?

Great photos! Very talented photographer. I think your right about capturing essence... I never really thought about it before, but those are always my favorite pictures. Never because someone looks pretty or photogenic, but when they look so REAL and you know how they're feeling/thinking.
I wonder if I could build a "capture essence" project with my photo classes next year. Think high school kids would be up to the challenge?

love that soul gazing shot - she is obviously mesmerizing the onlookers into giving her many, many treats. ;)
also, I think Daria is the bigger separated-at-birth twin of my Gracie girl. They should meet and become BFFs. hehe!

an enormous thank you to each one of you for all the sweet puppy and photo love!

caiti...daria is a combo pack rescue pup who remains a lovely mystery as far as breed goes. vets refer to her as a terrier or whippet mix. there is also much speculation about a possible blend of greyhound, ridgeback, dachshund, miniature pinscher...the list goes on and on. :)

nikki...i think a "capture essence" project with your high school classes would be brilliant! my mind immediately started spinning with ideas of how to teach it. i hope you do it and i would love to hear about it! what a cool teacher you are.

caren...i totally see the resemblance! i would love it so much if daria and gracie could play and be BFF's! :D
